Old Baldy Sept 2007 Old Baldy in spring of 2007 Old Fire Hall  Markdale was incorporated as a Village in 1888 and in January 2001 became part of the amalgamated Municipality of Grey Highlands. Today Markdale continues to offer the families of the area many amenities. The turn of the century style downtown offers up many unique retail shops. The community is supported by its churches and several clubs. Many are drawn to this agricultural centre for it’s industry and healthcare. The residents are diverse including artists, entrepreneurs, a large array of craftspeople and farmers. Reasonable real estate prices have aided in making Markdale a great place to live or retreat in the summer or winter. The beauty of the area draws visitors to the many Bed & Breakfasts, and the ski slopes of the BeaverValley. The fact that Markdale also offers sustaining industry, health care facilities- GBHSMarkdaleHospital and Grey Gables, library and golf club only makes it more attractive. However, Markdale may be best known as the home of Chapman’s Ice Cream, Terra Footwear and Medike.
